Google is targeting websites that are doing what they call "Back Button Hijacking".

Back Button Hijacking is when a pop-up message is triggered when a website visitor hits the back button.

Google sees the practice as spammy and will penalize websites that do it.

The bigger takeaway is that consumers want to trust businesses they interact with.

The practice should be eliminated, not for the sake of Google, but to build trust with customers.
